Come along to this fun full day intensive with Allie Wilde and have a blast whilst expanding your existing circus and performing skills base. Learn roving/ installation/ site specific/ immersive/ street performance skills including:
- Character development - from idea to execution - …Who am I? Why am I here? Why am I doing this? And how can you interact with me? Use of inner mantra, back story, character traits and physical and emotional traits
- Verbal and Non-Verbal performance
- How to build and hold an audience and command space
- How to read your audience and communicate effectively with them (including noticing if they can hear you, understand you, being age appropriate, when to move in and when to move on)
- How to be highly interactive without being annoying or intimidating
- How to deal with undesirable behaviours - from audiences, security, clients etc.
- Generation of text from movement and generation of movement from text
- Improvisation skills/ finding content on the go
- Costuming and Character
- Roving techniques - working a site effectively and making the most of each moment you find yourself in
- Working with other performers
- How to build a solid framework to perform ‘well enough - even on a bad day!’
- Being heard without straining your voice
- Street Theatre - drawing people into your world
- What to include and what to let go of - making safe and suitable decisions around which skills to include and what content
This course is suitable for those with some physical performance skills and draws upon Allie’s 27 years of performance training and delivery. It includes a vast range of performance exercises, useful techniques, theatre games and content creation approaches she has undertaken in variety of workshop environments that she has adapted to suit her own practice over the years.

Vulcana Circus
Here at Vulcana Women’s Circus, we run workshops for adults and kids and teens, and we develop community projects with all kinds of different communities, the focus always being on creativity and empowerment through circus. You can book us for gigs, workshops or hire our space at the Stores Studio, Brisbane Powerhouse.
Vulcana’s circus workshop and performance projects engage a broad range of community participants and work in partnership with arts and community organisations to create opportunities for cultural expression and community development. In a safe, playful space we encourage participants to be themselves with joy and push the boundaries of what is achievable as one or in a group.
Cancellations & Refunds
If the organiser cancels the class:
You are entitled to a full refund.
If you can't attend the class:
- A transfer can be requested anytime before the class starts. Free of charge.
- A credit note can be requested 2 days before the class starts. An admin fee of AU$20.00 applies.
No changes will be allowed after these times.
