This event combines two of our favourite things, movies and circus!

A great opportunity to hang out with your favourite people, watch a movie, and generally have a good time.

We will be watching The Cost of Living by DV8 Physical Theatre (an award winning screen adaptation of the stage show) plus some Vulcana retro clips.


About the movie:

"This entertaining look at what happens after a group of street performers give up their clown work in a British seaside town makes it clear that live or on celluloid, DV8 are one of the sharpest dance troupes around. The movement arises out of character and situation, whether it’s a guy in a nightclub whose nervous tics take over his body, or a woman fighting off a group of boys with a hoola hoop [Kareena Oates-one of the founders of Vulcana].

It’s an ensemble piece, but the film’s most memorable moments involve David Toole, a legless dancer who seduces us in a bar, fights off a bigot, gets to dance with a ballerina and shares the film’s extraordinary final image" - NOW MAGAZINE

Here at Vulcana Women’s Circus, we run workshops for adults and kids and teens, and we develop community projects with all kinds of different communities, the focus always being on creativity and empowerment through circus. You can book us for gigs, workshops or hire our space at the Stores Studio, Brisbane Powerhouse.

Vulcana’s circus workshop and performance projects engage a broad range of community participants and work in partnership with arts and community organisations to create opportunities for cultural expression and community development. In a safe, playful space we encourage participants to be themselves with joy and push the boundaries of what is achievable as one or in a group.

Cinemata Circus was, just like all the Vulcana events I have been to over the years - FABULOUS!! The first movie provided an opportunity for anyone not familiar with all the brilliant work Vulcana has done over the years to gain insight - and a great trip down memory lane for all of us long standing big fans. Main feature was brilliantly chosen and rocked my creative soul. Cannot wait till the next Cinemata Circus event!!! Thank you, Vulcana. You ROCK!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Cancellations & Refunds

If the organiser cancels the class:

You are entitled to a full refund.

If you can't attend the class:

  • A transfer can be requested anytime before the class starts. Free of charge.
  • A credit note can be requested 2 days before the class starts. An admin fee of AU$20.00 applies.

No changes will be allowed after these times.
